A positive skills assessment is the first requirement for almost every Australian skilled visa. Before you can apply for the 189, 190 or 491 visa, the assessing authority for your occupation must confirm that your qualifications and work experience match your nominated occupation.

Why Your Skills Assessment Matters
Every skilled occupation has a designated assessing authority — Engineers Australia for engineers, ACS for IT professionals, VETASSESS for many professional and trade occupations, and so on. Without a positive assessment from the correct authority, you cannot be invited to apply through SkillSelect, no matter how strong your points score is.
Your occupation must also appear on the relevant skilled occupation list, and you need at least 65 points on the Skilled Visa Points Test Table to lodge an Expression of Interest.
What happens after you submit the form?
